Should a short-term visitor rent a car?
Renting a car can make sense for a longer stay, for visitors who already know Muscat roads, or when the itinerary includes many unstructured stops over several weeks. For a two-day visit built around flights and appointments, self-drive adds parking, navigation and return-to-airport timing on top of the meetings themselves.
A reserved private vehicle with a driver is one way to keep the schedule together: airport meet and greet, movements between confirmed locations, waiting inside the booked period, and a planned finish at the airport or hotel. Example two-day transport schedule
The times below come from one anonymized customer itinerary. Names, companies, private addresses and travel dates are omitted. These are examples based on one specific Muscat schedule. They are not universal fixed fares. The final quotation depends on the date, route, vehicle, stops, waiting requirements and total service time.
Day one: airport arrival, meetings and hotel

Additional time starts from OMR 7 per hour. It requires driver and vehicle availability and must be confirmed before extending the service. Do not assume the same block can continue automatically into the afternoon.
Airport meet and greet
On day one, send the flight number with the booking request. For a confirmed airport pickup, meet and greet is available and flight monitoring can be applied so the driver is aware of a delayed arrival. The booked period is still the confirmed window unless extra time is agreed in writing.
If the only need on landing is a hotel drop with no further driving that morning, a point-to-point Muscat Airport transfer is usually enough. Use a reserved time block when meetings or hotel check-in and later appointments sit inside the same morning.
Planning travel time between Muscat districts
Muscat is a long coastal city. Airport, Qurum, Al Khuwair, Ghubra, Bausher and hotel districts are not a few minutes apart at every hour of the day. Build buffer time between appointments rather than stacking meetings back to back across opposite sides of the city.
Give the planner the meeting addresses, not only the hotel name. A driver can only fit stops into a six-hour or five-hour window if those stops are known in advance. Unlisted destinations may still be possible if they fit the remaining time; they are not an open pass to every address in Oman.
Waiting between business appointments
Waiting at agreed stops can be included within the agreed service time. That is the practical difference between a reserved driver and a one-way drop: you are not automatically booking a new car when a meeting overruns by twenty minutes inside the confirmed period.
Waiting is not unlimited. Distance is not unlimited. If a meeting runs past the booked finish, additional service starts from OMR 7 per hour only when the driver and vehicle are still available and the extension is confirmed. The driver is not obliged to remain after the booking ends.

Transport options for one passenger
Solo travellers can reserve the full vehicle. The example six-hour day-one arrangement was quoted for the complete car, not a per-person seat. Couples and small groups follow the same rule: passenger count and luggage still matter for the vehicle category, but the example amounts are not split by headcount.
Luggage and vehicle selection
A private air-conditioned vehicle with a driver is the service described here. An English-speaking driver is available. Vehicle options may include a comfortable sedan, SUV, executive vehicle or minivan, depending on passengers, bags and availability. The exact model is confirmed when booking. State the number of passengers and the number and size of bags. Cabin luggage and a checked suitcase are different problems at the airport and at a hotel porte-cochère. A child seat is not included unless it is confirmed separately.
Requesting the same driver
The same driver can be requested on both days, subject to availability. Continuity helps when the second morning starts at the hotel and finishes at the airport. The assignment is not guaranteed until each day is confirmed in writing.
Handling schedule changes
Flights move. Meetings slip. The written confirmation is the reference for hours and locations. If the arrival is late, flight monitoring on a confirmed pickup helps the driver track the aircraft; it does not freeze traffic or extend the booking by itself. If you need to finish later than 1:00 PM in the example above, ask for additional time before the booked period ends.
Travel outside Muscat, special parking, venue access and extra stops are confirmed separately when required.
